====================================================================== The 2000 Canadian Encyclopedia Student Edition Version 2.0 Powered By MacVersabook Version 1.0 ====================================================================== ================================================================ SETTING UP ================================================================ Take note of the minimum system requirements and follow the installation instructions. ================================================================ MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ================================================================ - Macintosh Power PC - Mac OS 8.1 or later version - 32 MB RAM - 100 MB free hard disk space - 800 x 600 monitor resolution - Color depth: "Thousands" - 12X CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive - 28.8K modem to connect to register ================================================================ INSTALLATION ================================================================ To install: 1. Place Disk 1 - Install CD-ROM in the CD-ROM tray. 2. Double click on the Disk 1 - Install icon on the Desktop. 3. Double click on the TCE Student Installer icon. 4. Proceed according to the instructions on the screen until the Installation Type window appears. 5. Choose an installation type and click Install. 6. Click TCE Student alias on your desktop to open your Versabook. Note: If your computer does not have the appropriate version of Real Player, the Real Player installation window appears. Follow the instructions. After the Real Player installation is complete, click the Setup window to make it the active window and continue Setup. If your computer does not have QuickTime 4: 1. A message appears telling you that QuickTime 4 is going to be installed. Click OK. 2. Click Quit in the dialog box. The QuickTime 4 installation window appears. 3. Follow the installation instructions. 4. Restart the machine. 5. Click TCE Student alias on your desktop to open your Versabook. Note: In order to avoid CD swapping, we recommend you run the program from the Disc 2 - Program disc. ================================================================ ERROR MESSAGE: ================================================================ If you receive one of the following error messages: "This application program cannot be opened because the folder (or file) ... was not found." "The application could not be launched because the file was not found." "Some of the data required to run this product was not found. Check whether the product is installed properly." A file may have been erased from your hard drive. To correct this, you need to uninstall and reinstall your product. To do this: 1. Place the first CD-ROM or DVD-ROM in the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM tray. 2. Double click the Disk icon in the desktop. 3. Double click the Program Installer icon. 4. Choose Uninstall and then click Uninstall. 5. Reinstall the product as described above. ================================================================ MEDIA PROBLEMS ================================================================ If you have trouble seeing media or virtual reality clips, install Quick Time 4 on your computer. It is available on your CD or DVD in the directory: /setup/mac installers/QuickTime Installer. If you have trouble hearing the sounds, install Real Player on your computer. It is available on your CD or DVD in the directory: /setup/mac installers/Publishing RM6A installer. Before you zoom a video clip, first stop the sound track. If not, you will hear two sound tracks at the same time. ================================================================ MEMORY PROBLEMS ================================================================ We recommend setting the virtual memory to 128 MB instead of the default 32 MB setting in order to play the Real Audio track in an article without problems. To change the virtual memory setting: 1. From the Apple menu, select to Control Panel. A pop-up menu appears. 2. Click Memory. 3. Select 128 MB. 4. Restart your computer. ================================================================= VIEWING CLICKABLES ================================================================= Clickables are interactive media that you can zoom in or out or move around. To use the macro media flash options, simultaneously press the Control button and click with the mouse, the macro media flash pop-menu appears.
